How to test Modbus RTU with Serial Port Monitor Modbus RTU is the implementation of the Modbus protocol that is most often used in industrial applications and automated production facilities. A distinguishing characteristic of Modbus RTU is its use of binary coding and strong CRC error-checking. The two modes are Modbus RTU and ASCII and are both designed to be used with serial devices supporting the RS232, RS485, and RS422 protocols.
Modbus RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) is one of the two transmission modes defined in the original Modbus specification. Industrial automation and supervisory control and data acquisition ( SCADA) systems often employ the Modbus protocol.
